The riverbank near Bhide Bridge saw a major cleanup initiative by the Ocean Ally Foundation (CEO: Karn Ragade), successfully removing over 200 kilograms of harmful waste and promoting environmental stewardship.
A powerful force of 80 volunteers from Black & Veatch Pune, along with 12 children, spearheaded the effort. They collected nearly 50 large bags of debris—a hazardous mix of plastics, rags, and medical waste—which posed a significant threat to the river’s health.
The cleanup received crucial support from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Mr. Atiq Sayyed from the Vishrambuag wada ward office arranged for protective gloves and a pickup truck to efficiently manage the collected debris.
Karn Ragade of the Ocean Ally Foundation highlighted the collaborative spirit: "This demonstrated what corporate responsibility and community effort can achieve. We are grateful for the massive turnout from Black & Veatch and the essential support from the PMC."
The event serves as a powerful reminder of the need for local action to protect Pune’s river systems.
Kinaara 2024: A Triumphant Wave of Collaboration for Ocean Health
The inaugural Kinaara Seminar and Networking Event, hosted by the Ocean Ally Foundation (OAF), achieved resounding success in Pune, proving that diverse collaboration is key to ocean conservation. Kinaara, meaning 'shore,' brought together a unique mix of activists, researchers, students, fishermen, and academics, demonstrating OAF's commitment to an inclusive approach.
The event was officially opened by Chief Guest Mr. Vinod Bodhankar (Sagarmitra Abhiyaan), who emphasized shared responsibility for waste management and river health.
The sessions showcased pioneering conservation thought:
-
Rajat Bandopadhyay discussed the power of gamification for sustainability education.
-
Dr. Madhushri Mudke highlighted conservation through research, using the engaging "Dancing Frogs" project.
-
Catherine Pinto offered a unique perspective on coexistence with companion animals.
-
Mayuresh Gangal (Know Your Fish initiative) detailed how consumers can make sustainable seafood choices to reduce overfishing.
Emceed by climate activist Megal D’souza, the event successfully celebrated the vision of the late Shri Commodore Rajan Vir and OAF founders Karn Ragade and Akansha Tiwari.
Kinaara was more than a seminar; it was a powerful alliance-building platform. OAF extends its gratitude to all participants for making this flagship event a powerful start to future conservation efforts.
